We are officially approaching the seven year anniversary in this house. We had hoped that at this point in our lives we would have moved on to something bigger but life got in the way. Sometimes things just don’t go as planned. So we are here and as I have been reading so many blogs lately trying to gain inspiration I have adopted the philosophy from The Nester, “Love the home you’re with”. It’s not the house’s fault that it is too small for our family or that the builder didn’t splurge on anything above the cheapest builder grade materials. I shall put lipstick on this pig. Yes I shall.
This is our house.
We have not done much on the exterior but remove two dead trees from the front yard. Also my husband decided last year that the cedar topiaries flanking the garage door were way too big and were dying. Those were pulled from the space. He also built a privacy fence with a gate on the left of the house so you couldn’t see directly into our backyard from the street. I painted the door a fun turquoise instead of the white it was originally.
Here’s a list of possibilities to spruce up the curb appeal to our house:
- Paint the garage door black
- Add black shutters to the lone window
- Replace fixtures flanking the garage
- Bench on left side of front porch
- Chair on right side
- Pillows for furniture
- Planters where we pulled cedar topiaries
- Replace pendant fixture on porch
- House numbers
Of course I have been looking at Pinterest (my happy place) for ideas.
Since I’ve been doing some painting inside the house, I may start with the garage door. Paint is always the cheapest way to make a big change. The front door could use some caulk around the glass and a fresh coat of the same blue since I still like it. I am totally obsessing over the barn style lighting that is trending right now.
These could totally transform the look of our exterior. I think a rustic farmhouse style suits us. One thing at a time. Check back for updates on my exterior projects.
